The Bouchards: Press

The Bouchards - High Water Line

Channeling the ghosts of country’s past, the Bouchards open up High Water Line with “Lonesome Time,” a tune that proves to be one of the finest moments on the album. In true classic-country fashion, the song juxtaposes some of the saddest lyrics you’ll ever hear with brisk, bouncy instrumentation that’s heavy with pedal steel solos. Indeed High Water Line is a fine record. The distant, driving banjo picking that supports “Big Man” is notable, as is the touching, poetic lyricism of “Corinne” and the Tom Petty-style Americana-rock gold of “Motherlode.”

“The Bouchards mix sweet-sounding twang with melodic, 60s-ish pop-rock – sort of like the Derailers with plenty of pedal steel thrown in on top. Very indie... Worth a spin!
Seattle is home to The Bouchards. I stumbled onto these guys like pretty much I do many bands these days, that being an e-mail press release followed by a visit to the Myspace site. I liked what I heard on the site and within a week the CD was in the mailbox. Whereas this band doesn't necessarily blaze any new trails, what they do do they do it well and from the picking to the fine vocal work, there's a lot to like about the catchy songs that comprise High Water Line (Double Dice Records). The band was born in the summer of 2006 when ex-Rank & File drummer Bob Kahr moved to Seattle and hooked up with future bandmates Dennis Tevlin and Bill Preib. Now two years later, High Water Line gives us a tight band whose hallmarks are great harmonies and that hard-to-resist mix of driving guitars and pedal steel with songwriting that more than holds its own.

What a nice surprise this CD is! If you like relaxed, comfortable alt-country music that has deft touches of folk thrown in with excellent singing and harmonizing, lots of good steel playing, crisp drumming, good keyboard work, and good guitars... you will definitely enjoy "High Water Line".

"The Bouchards rocked Jules Maes Saloon while patrons paired off to do what Seattle crowds almost never do - dance! Couples twirled, swayed and bopped around the floor while the band pounded out a mix of country classics and fiery originals."
